Creating Veiled Images: How to Transform Your Photographs into Beautiful Works of Art

I have been teaching art for over twenty years, and for almost as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by the relationship between photography and painting. What happens when you bring the two together? What does a photograph become when it is transferred, layered, collaged and worked into with paint? Can an image that started on your phone end up as something genuinely beautiful, something that feels entirely your own?
The answer, I have discovered, is yes. And in my online course Creating Veiled Images, I share exactly how.

What is Creating Veiled Images?
Creating Veiled Images is a self paced online course that teaches you how to transform your own photographs into layered, atmospheric works of art. Over five modules of pre recorded video content, I take you through the entire process from start to finish, from taking and editing photographs through to combining them with paint, collage and found materials to create pieces that are evocative, personal and completely unique to you.
The course is open for enrolment from 15th August to 1st September 2026. If you have been thinking about joining, this is your window.
Who is this course for?
Creating Veiled Images is designed for both beginners who are just starting their artistic journey and practising artists who want to extend their skills and explore a new way of working. If you have a phone full of photographs that you have never quite known what to do with, this course will change that entirely.
Over the past couple of years I have had photocollage artworks accepted into galleries and prestigious exhibitions. In this course I share everything I have learned, and you can watch me from start to finish as I make a small series of collages.
What will you learn?
The course covers everything you need to get started and keep going. Here is what is included:
Five modules of pre recorded video content with written instructions to accompany each one. Simple, clear guidance on how to use acrylic, oil and cold wax alongside your photographic images. A full materials list with links to where to buy everything you need. A bonus lesson on image transfer. Ideas for future projects to help you develop the work in your own direction. A space to share your work and connect with other artists on the course. Written feedback from me personally for the first six weeks.
You also have unlimited lifetime access to all content, with downloadable video links so you can learn at your own pace and return to the material whenever you need it.
What do students say?
I am incredibly proud of what students have made through this course. Here is what some of them have shared:
Cat L described the course as simply wonderful, structured and engaging, with amazing support throughout. She went on to sell her first four paintings in the months after completing it, which she described as such an important milestone.
Sharon B, an interdisciplinary artist and art teacher, said the course gave her everything she needed to get started immediately and enabled her to apply the learning to her own practice rather than simply copying my work. Over just a few weeks she created a whole new body of work.
Patricia L particularly enjoyed learning about photography techniques and the use of different apps, which helped her take better photographs and apply new approaches to her artwork.

A note on materials
You will need an inkjet printer that accepts black pigment ink for this course. Most inkjet printers with a separate black cartridge do use pigment ink, but please do check with your supplier before enrolling. If you are unsure, feel free to get in touch with your printer model number and I will help you find out.
