Sensory Abstract Paintings
About Me
I am a contemporary, mixed media artist living by The Thames Estuary in Leigh on Sea, UK.
What I can see, hear, smell and feel, all play a part in how I interpret the landscape I walk in daily. Childhood memories of times spent out in nature, also help to shape the work I create.
I love to collect wild plants and use them to create my own 'foraged' drawing tools. The authentic and expressive marks they make appear frequently within the layers of my work. I am fascinated by texture and the process of applying and removing paint using a variety of techniques. Though my paintings may not resemble an actual place, they are landscapes from within my memory and evoke the sensation of being outdoors, immersed in nature.
My most recent body of work, 'Equinox', focuses on the seasonal shifts in nature around the time of the Autumnal Equinox. This body of work is currently exhibited in a beautiful gallery, Aldeburgh Contemporary Arts in Suffolk. I created a short film to accompany this work, you can view this work by clicking here.
If you live in Leigh on Sea, you can see my work adorning the walls of The Squeeze cafe on Leigh Broadway. I also run seasonal Experimental Mark Marking workshops at Create98 in Leigh on Sea, to hear first about these, please sign up to my Studio Notes.
